Named after the English poet John Milton, Milton is a hamlet in Ulster County, NY. In the 1700s, Milton began, and it has a seafaring history. In its early days, it was home to a wooden mill, a pin factory, a wheel-barrow factory, and a plush and glove-lining factory.

Famous People

Milton was home to Mary Hallock Foote, author and illustrator who wrote short stories about the West. Warren White was a resident and Union Army Civil War veteran. He also played Major League Baseball in its early days. Frank Skartados, a NY state assemblyman, called Milton home as well.

The Woods Hollow Nature Preserve has hiking and walking trails, sled riding, and a fishing pond. Two other parks that are great for walking or fishing are the Boice Family Park and Cottrell-Herrington Park.
