Plenty of History to Reflect Upon in Milton, New York

In 1708, Milton's town and a significant portion of Saratoga County were wrapped up in the Kayaderosseras Patent. This was granted to the attorney general of New York, Samson S. Broughton, and 12 of his English associates. Before this, all land here was part and parcel of Albany County, which had been established back in the middle of the 1600s. Fast-forward to 1792, Charlton, Galway, and Milton towns were established from parcels of Ballston. Milton's town was fully established on March 7, 1792, by an Act of New York State Legislature. Other divisions of land throughout Saratoga County in 1828 made the towns as they are today.

Within the first portion of the 20th Century, mills in the area were beginning to move or close down for various reasons. Operations of the PP & J electric railway also had to close down operations in 1928. What saved employment in the area is that truck and auto production was still advancing, which lead to the development and improvement of Milton highways and roads.

During the end of the 1900s, both moderate-size retail and residential development took place. Many residents commute for employment reasons all through the Capital District, which also includes various educational institutions, businesses, and government agencies. For many local Milton residents, the Saratoga County offices for local government remain a significant employer.
